Referee's Level One Seminar

REFEREE LEVEL 1 SEMINAR

The referee level 1 seminar consists of a one day tuition course open to all over the age of 13 and is designed to give candidates a basic understanding of the duties of a linesman.

There will be an off ice session in a meeting room, which lasts for approximately 6 hours in order for the instructors to give an insight into becoming a referee.

After the off ice session the whole group will then depart to a local ice rink to take part in a 2 hour on ice skating session. The first part will be a skating assessment to ascertain ability and this consists of:

Forward skating
Backward skating
Cross over’s
Stopping ability

After the assessment we will arrange for 2 local junior teams to take part in a game in order for candidates to put into practice what has been learned in the classroom and also allow them to decide if they wish to pursue with registration.

The cost of the seminar is £50. At the end of the seminar each candidate will receive a certificate of attendance together with a referee’s whistle.

For the one ice section of the seminar a black and white shirt will be provided for the duration of the scrimmage only, but it is advisable that candidates wear leg pads, a protective cup and a helmet. Junior players will have to have the player’s cage removed, but a visor for the scrimmage is not necessary.

Once the seminar has been completed, the candidate will have a 2 year window (from the date of the seminar), in which to decide to register as an on ice official.
