Youth Development Review
ENGLISH ICE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
Coaching Programme
Club Head Coach / Head of Youth Development
Dear Club Secretary
As announced at this years AGM:
As part of the on going review of how the Coaching Programme (CP) attempts to deliver improved coaching standards the following changes will be in place for the 2010/11 season.
- The launch of online coach recertification and drill database, delivered in conjunction with USA Hockey and Flexxcoach.
- The requirement for all clubs to appoint a designated Head Coach and/or a Head of Youth Development who currently hold a level 3 licence, be in the process of completing your level 3 or will be taking the level 3 in the 2012/13 season.
- CP delivering direct courses for appointed Head coaches/Head of Youth Development.
To give club more time to identify, appoint and get their selected coaches qualified, dispensation will be given to appoint a level 2 where the nominated coaches were unable to attend the May 2010 level 3 or were not eligible. I would suggest that all clubs should identify two coaches for the posts.
Where there are different groups within the rink they will have to liaise with the appointed Head Coach/Head of youth Development.
Criteria for dispensation:-
- Completion of the CP logbook for the 2010/2011 season.
- Held a current Level 2 licence for minimum of 4 years and have been actively coaching during this period at 18 level or above.
- Has attended the EIHA or an EIHA approved child protection and equality course.
- Agree to attend the next available level 3 course.
To hold the post of Head of Youth Development the following criteria are mandatory requirements for appointment.
Hold a current Level 3 or are in the process of completing a Level 3
- Have been actively coaching for a minimum of the last two seasons.
- Have coached EPL, ENIHL, U18, Conference, National Teams or Senior women’s.
Clubs will only be given dispensation once for the use of level 2 coaches in these positions.
Other impending changes
- 2010/11season, the requirement for referees to check coaching licences will be re-introduced.
- 2010/11 season, Under 18 level 1 coaches or Managers will not be allowed to take charge of the bench if the level 2 has been ejected.
- 2010/2011 season, the Accelerated Programme will be discontinued. All potential coaches MUST attend a Level 1 course. Coaches must serve one full season or in certain circumstances six months before Level 2 can be taken. This rule also applies to coaches who come from outside the EIHA jurisdiction and are unable to prove they have the current relevant/equivalent qualification.
- 2012/2013 season all EPL teams must have a Level 3 licensed coach in charge, this will include the game day bench. ENL teams will be mandated from the 2014/15 season.
- The upgrading of the standard coaching licence requirements for running, or assisting in the running of the bench within the EIHA will be published shortly.
Head Coach Training 2010
- For coaches appointed as Head Coach or Head of Youth Development who did not attend the May Level 3, The Coaching Programme will be holding a mandated seminar where we will highlight the completion of coach’s logbook, the introduction to the English Player Development Model and Flexxcoach on line drill solution and re-certification.
This course will cost £75.00 including lunch, timings and detailed schedule will be published shortly.
