Welcome to the Women’s section for Ice Hockey, here you will see up to date information and news on what’s happening. Women’s hockey in England has been around from the early 80’s and continues to grow.
Currently there are 10 Premier Teams who travel the length and breadth of the country to play games. In addition there are three Division One Leagues, North, Midlands and South with a total of 20 teams competing to win their respective leagues.
Opportunity came our way in 2006 due to rule changes to introduce an under 16’s Girls League and the numbers are increasing and more are required as this league develops. The best players are selected to attend School of Excellence training camp during the summer and a number will find themselves representing England and GB teams in the future.
Once the season has reached its climax the top 4 teams from the WPL compete for the Bill Britton Memorial Trophy while the winning team from each of the Division one leagues and the bottom placed team in the WPL fight it out to see who will be promoted or relegated to or from the WPL for the forth coming season. We also have the added bonus of seeing the top north v top south U16’s Girls teams battle it out to be National Champions, an event not to be missed, put the date in your diary the Women’s Trophy Weekend last bank holiday in May at Ice Sheffield.
