SoIihull Fund raiser game

Formed in 1982, 2012 sees the Solihull Vixens Ladies Ice Hockey Club celebrate their 30 year anniversary. The Vixens were one of the original members of the first Women's League in Britain when it was formed back in the mid-80's. With the 2011/2012 season having been Solihull's most successful in history, it was the perfect backdrop on which to celebrate this milestone. On Saturday the 7th of July, the current Vixens team played host to a side composed of past players from throughout the years, including event organisers Sharron Long (also an original founding member of the Club) and Ceri Powell. 400 match tickets were sold and in front of a packed Hobs Moat crowd the Solihull Vixens of Old, sporting specially-designed anniversary shirts and led by Team Captain Jane Piovesana, earned a narrow and nail-biting 8-7 victory.

The match itself was held in aid of the Jack O'Donnell Foundation (http://www.jodf.org/). Jack, a talented ice hockey player and England representative, was tragically involved in an accident in 2010 and passed away aged just 16. The Foundation was formed in his memory and strives to fund life changing/saving medical care for young people in need, just as Jack was. Funds raised from the sale of tickets, generous sponsorship, programme advertisements and sales, raffles and many other initiatives saw the total figure raised reach a staggering £4,200. Sincere thanks go to all that were involved, attended and contributed.

The Vixens are always looking to attract new members and would be keen to hear from anyone wishing to know more about the Club. Please contact Debbie Warwick at solihull-vixens@hotmail.co.uk for further details.
